There are some really good books I've heard about through CSPAN's BookTV - which presents very interesting issues. It's only on during weekends through Sunday night, though.
This was a good one: Wrong on Race, by Bruce Bartlett In “Wrong on Race: The Democratic Party’s Buried Past”, author Bruce Bartlett argues that the Democratic Party had a racist past that there’s an unfair perception of America’s two national parties. In his book, he contends that Democratic Presidents and congressmen of the past supported racial segregation and “Jim Crow” laws that dominated southern states. For example, he discussed unfair actions of Pres. Wilson.
I haven't read it yet, it sounds good.
Tavis Smiley interviews good authors as well. I have to be up at midnight to watch him though. The other night he interviewed Amy Goodman, who writes with her brother David. Latest: "Standing up to the Madness: Ordinary Heroes in Extraordinary Times"
I plan to reading these and other good ones. In the meantime I enjoy hearing authors' views on BookTV, Tavis Smiley and "Like It Is," a current events program in NYC.
Have you heard about any good books lately?

The "Incarnations Of Immortality" series by Piers Anthony is good. So far I've finished the first book "On A Pale Horse" and began the second one. It is a very interesting and inventive take on life and the world and melds science and magic together to create a fantastic experience. The book is quite compelling. Me and my girlfriend would fight to read it because we only had one copy.

My next book to read:A "New York Times" bestseller in hardcover, Pulitzer Prize winner Alice Walker's "We Are the Ones We Have Been Waiting For" was called "stunningly insightful" and "a book that will inspire hope" by "Publishers Weekly," Drawing equally on Walker's spiritual grounding and her progressive political convictions, each chapter concludes with a recommended meditation to teach us patience, compassion, and forgiveness. "We Are the Ones We Have Been Waiting For" takes on some of the greatest challenges of our times and in it Walker encourages readers to take faith in the fact that, despite the daunting predicaments we find ourselves in, we are uniquely prepared to create positive change. The hardcover edition of "We Are the Ones We Have Been Waiting For" included a national tour that saw standing-room-only crowds and standing ovations. Walker's clear vision and calm meditative voice--truly "a light in darkness"--has struck a deep chord among a large and devoted readership Link om Democracy Now: www.democracynow.org/2006/11/17/inner_light_in_a_time_of
